If you are having a problem sending emails on Bigpond you need to apply the following steps:
You need to make changes to your incoming and outgoing server settings.
Change your incoming server to pop.telstra.com and port number is 995.
Change the outgoing server to smtp.telstra.com and the port number is 25.
The incoming server requires encrypted connection SSL and the outgoing server does not require authentication.
